www.uptownmag.com diversions One man, 500 shirts Minor Thread documents one fan's quest to wear all his band T-shirts www.alloneword.ca Anthony Augustine www.minorthread.com — If you are one of those obsessive col- lectors who still has every shirt you ever bought at a rock show, you will probably relate with the Minor Thread project — a fascinating look at band merch and one person's quest to work through his massive (500+) T-shirt collection without wearing the same one twice. Too bad the Spotify playlist for each band featured doesn't work for Canadians, because it's an easy way to discover new music or berefamiliarized with bands you may have forgotten about. Minor Thread bit.ly/twerking — You can pretty much blame Diplo for this Tumblr. Although he isn't the first DJ to work the low-end theory of music to make girls shake their ass on the dance floor, his recent single/video, Express Yourself, has taken things to another level. With home-shot twerking videos popping up on sites such as YouTube, someone has created a Tumblr that mashes an indie rock soundtrack featuring artists such as Animal Collective, Grimes and Arcade Fire with twerking clips from the web. Twerking to Indie Music bit.ly/Metallica_live — For some diehard Metallica fans, the three-year period with bassist Cliff Burton (which includes the 1983 landmark album, Ride the Lightning) was the band's defin- ing era in terms of lineup and sound. To commemorate the 26th year since Burton's death, the remaining members of the pion- eering metal act have made a live recording from the Ride the Lightning tour in Toulouse, France, available for free download. Metallica – Live in France (1984) MP3 of the Week: http://bit.ly/Police_Teeth—After three under-the-radar albums of uncompromising post-rock, Seattle's Police Teeth is poised to release its self-titled fourth album on Milwaukee's Latest Flame Records. Along with a video for the track, Emmanuel in Renton, you can preview Bellingham Media Blackout on its bandcamp page. Police Teeth (with a temporary replacement drummer) will be on a quick Midwest tour that hits Minneapolis on Oct. 19 at Hexagon Bar, just days after the release of the newalbum. The bill also includes Animal Lover, Big Box and The Toxic Shrews. Police Teeth – Emmanuel in Renton Video of the Week: culture writer. He can be heard every Tuesday morning at 8:55 a.m. on Hot 103 chatting about the web. Got a site you think he should see?
